Everyone enjoyed 'Love and the Dole' and we had lots of good chat about depressing things like poverty and the general state of the nation. Also about fashionable writing styles.
The next book is Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. You can read 'Home' as well if you really fancy. Date is October 20th at the Bread and Roses on Clapham Manor Street, and we'll be there from 7.30/8.00ish
This meeting is the week after 'Wolf Hall' (Oct 13th, same time and place) so all you slackers who haven't read it yet had better cancel all plans for the next few weeks!! Hope to see everyone then!
The runners up were:
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
New York Trilogy by Paul Auster
Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
Some book group-related articles spotted over the weekend:
ReplyDeleteSaul Bellow - man not unlike his books, apparently!http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2010/oct/10/saul-bellow-letters-janis-interview
And an article about Bad Blood author Lorna Sage - http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/oct/09/lorna-sage-bad-blood - we didn't vote for it when Jo suggested it before - perhaps worth another look?
